Sometimes, you just want to turn off your brain and watch a chaotic story. Lucky for you, there are anime that will get you laughing like a maniac. The anime industry is now cluttered with countless series. There is bound to be one that stick to even the deranged fans. However, no matter the taste of the audience, what is important is you can get a laugh out of the show that you pick.
Although fall 2023 is mostly stuffed with fantasy anime, there is room for the comedy genre. Luckily, this season has a number of options to pick. Without further due, here are some of the most amusing anime this season.
Girlfriend Girlfriend Season 2
Sometimes, to enjoy an anime, you have to turn off your brain and just take it lightly. Girlfriend Girlfriend surely is one of those anime. Its non-sensical comedy and cringeworthy moments slap you out of nowhere.
Naoya Mukai and the girls are back yet again with absurd stories. The first season was a rollercoaster, juggling both outrageous topics and out of this world premise. The second season is now here, continuing Naoya’s intricate romance.
After his two-timing relationship with Saki-Saki and Nagisa was exposed, Naoya ended up attracting more girls instead. First, it was Mirika, a famous online personality. After learning that Naoya had two girlfriends, she was determined to snatch him from Saki-Saki and Nagisa. Then, the ending of the first season revealed that Saki-Saki’s best friend, Shino, was actually in love with Naoya. Shino was completely not on board with was going on with her best friend’s relationship. She felt she had to keep Saki-Saki as Naoya’s only girlfriend so that she could bury her feelings for Naoya. This season is going to be wild if the anime decides to call out Shino’s interest in Naoya.
This anime is one of those that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Obviously, it just makes the comedy even more daring and unexpected. Watch Girlfriend Girlfriend season 2 on Muse Asia YouTube channel.
Undead Unluck
If your sense of humor is on the edgy, dark humor side, then this anime might be for you. Undead Unluck might not be a hundred percent comedy. However, one could imagine that edgelords will totally have fun watching this.
The premise follows a terribly unlucky girl, Fuuko Izumo. It starts with Fuuko finishing her favorite manga on top of a bridge. After contemplating her misfortune, she wanted to, well, to put it in a Blade Runner term, “retire” herself.
You see, Fuuko had a highly contagious disease of being terribly unlucky, to the point it might kill someone, or a loved one. However, a certain undead creature suddenly approach her. This zombie had lived a long life and was looking for a glorious final blast. Surely enough, after he held her to stop her from jumping off, he fell down and, well, let’s say he did a remake of Sam Raimi’s Spiderman 2. However, he came back up, unscathed and all his wound healed almost instantly.
Fair warning, if you can’t handle blood, gore, or violence, maybe go watch a reaction channel first before you watch it yourself. But, if this style is totally your cup of tea, Undead Unluck is available to stream on Hulu.
I’m In Love With The Villainness
Apparently, isekai anime are eternal because no matter what season it is, there is bound to be one. Being transferred into another world is a popular premise. However, this anime brings the main character not just into a regular fantasy world, but to a dating simulator game.
The premise follows the adventure of a regular office worker being reborn into her favourite otome game. But, she was not interested in going through a typical romance game plot, like fighting off the bully and wooing the main romantic interest. Instead, she was determined to date the bully.
Rei Oohashi was plaing her favorite otome game. Suddenly, her vision turned lurry and she woke up to Claire Francois, the game antagonist, scorning her. Instead of panicking, Rei was estatic knowing herself had become Rae Taylor, her character in the game. On top of that, Claire was her favorite in game character. Claire’s daily life was spent on bullying Rae just like how the storyline dictated. However, Rae counter-attacked by wooing Claire. Apparently, giving your bully a barrage of unsolicited flirting is a pretty effective anti-bullying strategy. In fact, it seemed like Rae was the one who was picking on Claire instead of the opposite. Rae was so obsessed with this game, in particular with Claire’s character. So, she had read so many guides and played the game multiple times, giving her the upper hand in her interactions with Claire. However, Claire was a proud girl and she was determined to assert her dominance.
This anime has a relaxed sense of humor with a simple and interesting premise. To see how obsessed is Rae with Claire, you can stream this anime on Crunchyroll.
The 100 Girlfriends Who Really Really Really Really Really Love You
Saying this anime is outrageously funny would be an understatement. The first episode revealed that its comedy and constant fourth wall breaking are both hilarious and absurd.
The story revolves around a boy called Rentarou. Rentarou was so irresistible for girls, he got a 100 streak of rejection by the time he entered high school. Did it say irresistible? Must’ve been a typo, should’ve been icky instead. But, after a shrine god granted him 100 potential romantic partner, his life turned for the better, or did it?
Despite his good looks, nice personality, and athleticism, Rentarou just couldn’t make a single girl swoon over him. In his desperation, he went to a shrine and prayed. To his surprise, the god actually answered in person, or rather in divinity, and promised him to flip his romantic fate 180 degree. With his newly built spirit, Rentarou went to school and immediately made two girls fall in love with him. His happiness was shortlived, however, he fell into a dilemma of which girl he should choose without breaking the other’s heart. But, it didn’t end there. To his bewilderment, the god revealed he actually assigned Rentarou with 100 soulmates due to a technical error. If Rentarou failed to reciprocate the feeling of one of his destined loves, she would die. Certainly, the god wasn’t talented to do some census data.
If you are up to one of the most unhinged comedy right now, this anime is just the show for you. The anime is available on Muse Asia YouTube Channel and Crunchyroll.
